Renaissance No More
|Late Monday afternoon word begin to leak that Mayor William “Bill” Edwards would veto the name Renaissance. In a news release from the city the Mayor gave several reasons he vetoed the measure chief of which was the overwhelming response of the citizens. Others included financial impact, timing, current name is already on contracts and literature.
Citing urgent issues at hand the statement went on to say the city needs to set a strong foundation and there a chance to take on this later. From there the City of South Fulton is reborn – so to speak.

For some inexplicable reason, the Council is reluctant to consider any name that wasn’t already included on the original list of names. This could prove to be a huge unnecessary mistake. Regardless, I keep trying to get these names on the list for consideration. (New Haven was my original suggestion)
1.Crescent Hills
2.Haven
3.Ardent (or Ardent Hills)
4.Haeven (Unique spelling. Pronounced Haven, not Heaven)
I think Crescent Hills fits us perfectly. The city is shaped like an abstract crescent, it’s unique, it sounds like it’s well-off (eg. Beverly Hills or Baldwin Hills), it sounds progressive, and like a great place to live or work, and no one that I’ve presented it to hasn’t liked it. (Unlike, The City of South Fulton, Renaissance, Atlanta Heights and Wolf Creek, which all get shouted down at the Council Meetings, and all of which were routinely rejected by the naming committee, which I was a part of.
What do you guys (y’all) think?
