2019 Election Year in COSF – UPDATE

South Fulton, GA - The clock striking midnight on New Year's also started the countdown to the second municipal elections in the City of South Fulton slated for November 5, 2019. Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be on the ballot. The winners will take office January 2020 for a full four-year term. By the way, Council members are allowed three consecutive full four-year terms totaling 12 years.  With Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 full terms beginning in January 2020 those current members can serve up to 14 years, if elected.

The City's Charter calls for an election of the Council members in alternate districts every two years. Elections for Districts 2, 4 and 6 will take place in 2021. COSF Council races are nonpartisan and doesn't require a primary, therefore,  the candidate with more than 50 percent of the vote is declared the winner. In case there is no clear winner a run-off will take place. If necessary, a run-off will take place on December 3, 2019.

UPDATE - District 1 Councilmember Catherine Rowell, District 3 Councilmember Helen Willis and District 7 Councilmember Mark Baker retain their seats. Councilmember Rosie Jackson was defeated in her bid for re-election by Corey Reeves who bested Jackson and two other candidates to take more than 50% of the vote. Councilmember-elect Reeves will take office in January.
